Letter E

On the capital "E," we glued on colored Easter eggs.
The lower case "e" is an elephant.
We also read a book and wrote down all the words that started with the letter "e."

Sewing for Preschoolers

A while back I had made my son some lacing cards, just out of cereal boxes covered with pictures from magazines. He still loves playing with his "sewing thing." When he's not lacing the card, he will go fishing with it. :)

One day while I was sewing, he told me that when he was bigger he could get his own sewing machine. He really enjoys trying to help me while I sew, although it is hard to find things that he can actually do to help.

I saw recently a few different ideas for sewing projects for kids. Sew, Mama, Sew has a bunch of ideas for different age groups.

We did our own version. I had on hand a bit of toule that I put in my embroidery hoop. I threaded a dull needle (I think it is a cross stitching needle), and let him stitch away! The holes it the toule make it really easy for him to get through the fabric. He enjoys the chance to use a real needle to sew. When he is done, I will cut the knot off the end of the thread, pull out all the stitches, and let him go again!

Two Little Turkeys

Note to my Mom: If you don't want to see your card before you get it in the mail, don't read this! :)

The past three years, I have made a Thanksgiving card for the Grandmas with a turkey made from my son's hand. I used the basic pattern and poem from DLTK. It has been so fun to see how his turkey has grown.

This year we have two little turkeys, so I changed the poem a bit to make it plural.

Here is my revised version of the poem:

These aren't just turkeys, which really is a plus.

We made them with our hands which are a part of us.

They come with lots of love especially to say,

We hope you have a very, Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Race Track

This was a favorite toilet paper roll creation--a race track, with two tunnels for cars to race down.

Peter and the Wolf

After we got a book with CD from the library of Peter and the Wolf, and also watched the cartoon on YouTube (you can see it here and here), my son informed me one day that we were going to make a wolf out of toilet paper rolls.

So this is what I came up with:

Pretty scary looking. :) He wanted a hole behind the nose, too, so he could look through.

Then we had to make the rest of the characters. We made Peter:

Grandpa:

"Sonia" the duck:

"Sasha" the bird:

"Ivan" the cat:

Letter A

My son and I did an informal home school preschool learning all the letters of the alphabet. I started posting a few of these letters that we did on my other blog before, but I wanted to post them all here, now that we are done with them.

Capital "A" we decorated with fingerprint ants.
The lower case "a" is covered with apples that he colored and pasted on.
We also read a book and wrote down all the words that started with the letter "a."

I also made him a book out of pictures we took of things that started with each letter of the alphabet. This is the letter "A" page.
