Nook Cover

I was the lucky recipient of a new Nook for Christmas. I had been thinking it would be fun to make a cover for it.

Here are a couple patterns if someone want to try to make one totally from scratch: from Urban Threads, and from Chica and Jo.

I remembered that I had this little portfolio notebook thing, that happened to be the exact size for my nook. I think I got this at Goodwill for less than a dollar. Its just a cheap notebook holder from some company. So check your local thrift store, or maybe you have a freebie from some company lying around!

To change it into a Nook holder, I sewed elastic onto the corners of one side. It was a little bit flimsy, so I inserted an extra layer of thick card stock in the pockets on each side. The card on the left side was sticking out a bit, so I covered it with fabric. I also glued on a piece of scrapbook paper over the little pocket that had a company's name on it. Then I sewed a little strap with a snap on the end on one side, with the other side of the snap on the top of the cover.

Outside top view were the snap is attached:

Outside back view where the strap is sewed on, and if you look really closely you can see the little lines where the elastic was sewn:

All ready to go with my Nook!

Catapult

I ran across this project on Pinterest the other week, and knew it would be something my boys would like. We made these little catapults to shoot pom poms.

Of course we had to make two, so we could have a battle.

With the puff balls as amo, no real harm can be done!

Tooth Fairy Pouch

My five year old son lost his first tooth the other night. I asked him if he wanted me to make something to put it in, and he helped me pick out this little tooth fairy bag. I found the tutorial here, from Purl Bee.

He was very excited to find a dollar coin inside in the morning!

Giraffe Birthday

My baby boy turned three last week. I can't believe how big he is getting. He requested a "Ralph" cake, who is his giraffe lovey he has had for forever. So here is the cake I decorated for his birthday.

Story Dice

Another project I have had bookmarked wanting to make for a while, are some story dice. I also made these for 2 of my nieces.

I gave them a little notebook to record their stories, and a little bag to keep the dice in.

The only other thing I crafted for a Christmas present was a rice bag I made for my 5 year old's Kindergarten teacher. I didn't get a picture of it, though. It was like these that I made earlier this year, but with Christmas fabric and some lavender oil in with the rice.

Star Crayons

I have been wanting to make these star crayons, to recycle some broken crayons, for a long time now. I finally did for 2 of my nieces for Christmas.

They were really easy! I have a silicone star shaped muffin pan I bought just for this purpose that we put broken crayons in, then put them in the oven at 250 degrees for 5-10 min. Both of my boys helped fill the stars. My 5 year old was especially fascinated by the end result. Once they were cool and we popped them out, we had to make another set for ourselves. :)

Put a bow on top, and they are all ready to give as a gift.

Future Ballerina

Things are finally getting back to normal around here. I want to post the few things that I made for Christmas.

I made this for my sister, who had her baby a few weeks before Christmas.

It goes perfect with the shoes and blanket I already gave her.
