Hobo Sacks

I made boys their own personalized hobo sack to take on a recent trip we took. They worked great!

I put a few little toys, books, and coloring books in their own sack to keep them occupied while traveling. I even put in a diaper and wipes in my 2 year old's a couple times, so I wouldn't have to bring an extra bag.

I got the tutorial from MADE, here. The only things I did different was add the applique initials, and I made the ties a loop, so they can be hung on things (like a shoulder, or stroller).

Popsicle Stick Puzzles

I love it when my 5 year old takes a project that I show him and goes crazy with it all on his own.

I made this popsicle stick puzzle for my boys. I have seen the idea several places and I thought it would be a fun puzzle for them. My 5 year old thought it looked like so much fun that he wanted to make some himself. So he made another rainbow...

And then a bunch more!
A flower:

A tiger:

An airplane up in the clouds:

A house:

OK, this one is mine, he asked for a little chick:

And here is him and his brother playing ball:

To store them, I put an elastic around each individual puzzle, then put them in an old tootsie roll can. Both my 5 year old and my 2 year old have enjoyed putting them together.

Easter Egg Chicks

The other day I went to Micheals craft store with my 2 year old while my 5 year old was at preschool. They had a free little craft set up making Easter egg chicks. I helped my 2 year old make this:

When we picked up my 5 year old from preschool, he wanted to make one too. We swung back by Michaels, but the craft table was gone. So we scrounged up some supplies we had at home and made some of our own. I helped my son make one, and while he had quiet time, he made some more...

And some more...

Then one pom pom chick...

Turned into a whole bunch tiny of pom pom chicks:

So cute! Now we are all decorated for Easter!

Bed Skirt

I have wanted to make a bed skirt for my son's bed for a while now. After moving to our new place, I decided it would be the perfect time. The room we put our boys in has red carpet, so to tie in the blue curtains and bedding we already had, I wanted to find some fabric that had red and blue.

I found some striped sheets on clearance at Walmart, and I thought it would be perfect! I actually bought 2 king sized sheets, plus the pillow case to match. So I have a lot of stripey fabric I will be doing a couple of fun things with.

Making the skirt was actually really easy. It is just a large rectangle with a small rectangle sewn on the bottom. A lot of the sides I used the hemmed side of the sheet, so I didn't even have to do much finishing of the edges. Just measure the mattress, plus the length of the side that you want to hang down. The side of this doesn't quite touch the floor.

Here's what it looks like without the other mattress on it. I does hang down the same length in the back, even though it is up against the wall.

Here is a close up of the corner. The bed looks so much better with the skirt on!

Spring has Sprung

We have had the most random spring around here, 70 degree weather for a couple days, then back into the 30s for a few days. It even got up to 80 a week and a half ago, then this Sunday, we woke up to snow. But the flowers have started to bloom. So we made some flowers to decorate our house.

I found the tutorial here from DLTK.

Both my 5 year old and my 2 year old have loved this activity. I have made quite a few flowers myself, too! It has kept them busy for several days.

My husband took some to work, and now all of his coworkers want some, too. So we have our work cut out for us!

My son even drew some angry birds on one. :)

Happy Spring!

Jungle Birthday Party

For my son's 5th birthday, he wanted a tiger cake. So we went with a jungle theme for his birthday party.

I made his tiger cake. I am no cake decorating expert, but I thought it turned out pretty good.

It was even striped on the inside with 2 layers of yellow cake and 2 layers of chocolate cake.

We hung streamers for jungle vines.

It was my son's idea to make the big jungle trees. He helped me color them and made all the leaves all over the wall, too. The animal stickers are removable stickers from the dollar store.

As an activity for all the kids, I had prepped some paper plates with eyes cut out and had them make their own jungle animal mask. I thought they did such a good job, I had to share some of them. We had a house full of kids and they all had a lot of fun with this activity. Most of them made their mask by themselves.

We also played pin the tail on the tiger. I used the image here. I enlarged it as big as I could on my computer screen and then traced it. My son helped color the tiger and colored all the tails different colors.

(My husband was the silly one that put the tail on the tiger's nose. :) )

It was a fun jungle party for a happy five year old!

Yellow and Green Angry Birds

 Here is the Yellow Bird:

With a cute little tail in the back:

The pattern for the yellow bird can be found here.

And the Green Bird (or going backwards bird):

Find the pattern for the green bird here.

I have two more birds to make, but ran out of fabric and time before my son's birthday, so I gave him what I had done.

They were so cute all squished together in the box.

They were a great hit! Right when he opened the box he was excited they were angry birds. Both my boys have found their favorites and have had to sleep with them. They also used them to throw at each other. Good thing they are nice and soft! :) My son even told me he liked his cool angry birds. They will be lots of fun.

I am still going to make the last 2 birds, and probably a couple extra so both my sons can have their favorites. Hopefully it won't take me too long. I do have some craftiness from my son's birthday party that I will put up here soon. We are also in process of moving, so not too much other crafting is going on lately.
