Spring has Sprung

We have had the most random spring around here, 70 degree weather for a couple days, then back into the 30s for a few days. It even got up to 80 a week and a half ago, then this Sunday, we woke up to snow. But the flowers have started to bloom. So we made some flowers to decorate our house.

I found the tutorial here from DLTK.

Both my 5 year old and my 2 year old have loved this activity. I have made quite a few flowers myself, too! It has kept them busy for several days.

My husband took some to work, and now all of his coworkers want some, too. So we have our work cut out for us!

My son even drew some angry birds on one. :)

Happy Spring!

Jungle Birthday Party

For my son's 5th birthday, he wanted a tiger cake. So we went with a jungle theme for his birthday party.

I made his tiger cake. I am no cake decorating expert, but I thought it turned out pretty good.

It was even striped on the inside with 2 layers of yellow cake and 2 layers of chocolate cake.

We hung streamers for jungle vines.

It was my son's idea to make the big jungle trees. He helped me color them and made all the leaves all over the wall, too. The animal stickers are removable stickers from the dollar store.

As an activity for all the kids, I had prepped some paper plates with eyes cut out and had them make their own jungle animal mask. I thought they did such a good job, I had to share some of them. We had a house full of kids and they all had a lot of fun with this activity. Most of them made their mask by themselves.

We also played pin the tail on the tiger. I used the image here. I enlarged it as big as I could on my computer screen and then traced it. My son helped color the tiger and colored all the tails different colors.

(My husband was the silly one that put the tail on the tiger's nose. :) )

It was a fun jungle party for a happy five year old!

Yellow and Green Angry Birds

 Here is the Yellow Bird:

With a cute little tail in the back:

The pattern for the yellow bird can be found here.

And the Green Bird (or going backwards bird):

Find the pattern for the green bird here.

I have two more birds to make, but ran out of fabric and time before my son's birthday, so I gave him what I had done.

They were so cute all squished together in the box.

They were a great hit! Right when he opened the box he was excited they were angry birds. Both my boys have found their favorites and have had to sleep with them. They also used them to throw at each other. Good thing they are nice and soft! :) My son even told me he liked his cool angry birds. They will be lots of fun.

I am still going to make the last 2 birds, and probably a couple extra so both my sons can have their favorites. Hopefully it won't take me too long. I do have some craftiness from my son's birthday party that I will put up here soon. We are also in process of moving, so not too much other crafting is going on lately.

Blue Angry Bird and Baby Pig

Both these guys are so cute and little. So fun!

Little blue angry bird:

In the game the blue one splits into three. I just might have to make two more to go with this one. The pattern for the blue bird is here.

Cute little baby pig:

Angry Birds - Pig

In the Angry Birds game, the birds shoot out to get the pigs. Here is a pig. They are so goofy, but cute. My eyeballs ended up a little crooked, I haven't decided if I should worry about fixing them or not. It kind of adds to the goofiness. :)

Here is the link to the pig tutorial.

Red Angry Bird

We got an Android phone for Christmas. Anyone with an Android or IPhone has probably heard of the game Angry Birds. It quickly became popular in our house. My almost 5 year old loves to play it. He also really likes stuffed animals. So when I saw a tutorial for plush angry birds from Obsessively Stitching, I thought it would be a perfect present for my son's fifth birthday! His birthday is in a week, hopefully I will have them all done before then. First, for today, here is the original Red Angry Bird.

Felt Food #2

More yummy felt food!

My favorite is the little strawberry, so cute!

I didn't follow the tutorial exactly, but had looked at this one at Bread and Buttons, and then did my own thing.

Sweet little blueberry muffin.

I used Helping Little Hands' printable pattern for the muffin.

My boys eat pears for breakfast everyday, so I had to do a pear.

I found a great pattern on this forum. Unfortunately, I made it too big, and then tried to take the seams in a little to make it smaller and it ended up a little wonky. I also forgot to put the stem and leaves on and haven't gotten around to doing that. My boys still love it, though.

Next is a ham and pineapple pizza, designed by myself.

Then a quesadilla.

Cut apart with yummy yellow cheese inside.

It seems like I saw this idea somewhere, but I'm not sure where. I just sandwiched a yellow felt circle in between two off white ones, cut in fourths, and machine sew around the edges.

Next, take a slice of bread,

slather on some peanut butter and drizzle with honey,

and top with another slice of bread, for a delicious peanut butter and honey sandwich (another favorite of my boys).

I used Helping Little Hands' printable pattern for the bread slices.

There are so many fun possibilities for the felt food. I will probably make more!
